Ceiling collapses on worshipers

Police in Kampala are struggling to rescue victims from the rubble of a building that collapsed suddenly on Monday afternoon.

Hundreds of born-again worshipers had gathered at the 2nd floor of the Fido Dido building located on Kampala Road to hold prayers when the old roof ceiling collapsed on them.

Kampala Police deputy spokesperson Asp Luke Owoyesigyire says 8 people have since been pulled out of the debris but others remain trapped inside.

It is not yet clear if anyone has died but the search is still ongoing .

The victims have been rushed to Mulago Hospital in critical condition as the search continues.

Police has also started investigations to establish the exact cause of the collapse.

Owoyesigirye says the police are currently recording statements from different stakeholders to ascertain the cause of the accident.

The landlord and the pastor of House of Rest Ministries have been summoned to give their statements.
