Magambo Own Goal Enough

Peter Magambo‘s own goal was enough for Vipers to secure a victory over their arch-rivals KCCA FC in a Startimes Uganda Premier League game played at Kitende on Wednesday evening.

With just five minutes to the end of the first half, Magambo deflected a Disan Galiwango’s cross into his own net after intercepting the low cross before an on-rushing Charles Lukwago could reach it.

In the opening half hour of the match, KCCA goalie Charles Lukwago was the only difference why the deadlock wasn’t broken early enough as he was spot on to deny Disan Galiwango and Karim Watambala on several occasions.

But Lukwago was left helpless in the 40th minutes when defender, Peter Magambo deflected Galiwango’s cross into his own net, a moment that sparked controversy over the way the goal counted to gift the Venoms a lead before recess.

Before the goal though, the Kasasiro Boys were dealt a blow after Charles Lwanga was substituted off for Brian Aheebwa after suffering a head injury following a collision with Paul Willa.

With arguably their first shot at goal in the 45th minute, KCCA got a rare goalscoring chance to level matters when Bright Anukani found himself in the right moment after being set up by Aheebwa, inside Vipers’ goal area, but he blazed it above the crossbar.

KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi made a substitution just seven minutes into the second half, bringing on Hassan Musana for a struggling Gift Ali with the hope that his side can impose themselves more in the game.

After that substitution, the Kasasiro Boys started dominating the game and created the first attempt of the second half but Aheebwa put his header just wide after a Samson Kigozi’s cross found him on the far post unmarked with just Fabien Mutombora to beat.

KCCA tried their level best to cut the venoms’ defense later on in the game but they lacked that cutting edge up front to force an equalizer.

With today’s win, Vipers have maintained their 100% winning record at home having won all eight games played in Kitende this season. The venoms have defeated UPDF, Kitara, MYDA, Police , Bright Stars, Villa and BUL FC earlier on in the season.

While, KCCA have now collected their fourth loss of the season after defeats to SC Villa, URA and BUL FC.
