A wicked man who has been on the run since he battered a pregnant woman has finally been captured and jailed for torture.

The suspect appeared before the Lira Chief Magistrate, Zeneba Natukunda on Monday and was charged with torture and was remanded to prison until May 13th, 2021.

Natukunda remanded the suspect after the Resident State Attorney, Jacinta Kkaya told the Court that investigations into the matter are complete and they are ready for the trial.

Hilary Owino became unpopular when a video of him punishing a naked pregnant in a bar hit the social media waves in Lira city.

The incident happened on June 2018 at Adekokwok sub-county in the then Lira Municipality before Owino fled into hiding.

Owino was recorded on video pouring water on the naked woman identified as Rose Acen in Bar-Opuu Ward on allegations of theft.

Owino acted on behalf of 2 other women who had accused Acen of stealing their money and a mobile phone from their house.

Margret Alum, a Social Worker at Lira Regional Referral Hospital and her sister, Esther Amolo claimed Achen stole the items when they invited her to help them harvest groundnuts.

The 2 later recorded and shared on social media the video footage of Acen being flogged in front of her child who was standing on the veranda of their house.

Achen was heard wailing in pain in Luo while a group of men and women cheered in the background drawing outrage from the public and Human Rights Activists in Lango sub-region.

This led to the arrest of Alum and her sister Amolo and subsequent prosecution in court.

However, Owino has been on the run until last week when he was arrested by security.
