We are almost losing count of the number of times that 35 jailed National Unity Platform –NUP supporters are seeking bail. The prisoners who have been in jail at Kitalya prison since December last year have sought bail from both the Army and civilian court in vain. This is their 4th attempt to get bail at the Makindye Military barracks since they were locked up. The suspects are to be presented on Tuesday 25th May 2021 at Makindye military court for a bail application. The prisoners including NUP president  Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s close confidant’s Musician Ali Bukeni alias Nubian Li, head of his personal bodyguards Eddy Ssebufu aka Eddie Mutwe, producer Dan Magic have been in jail for over 6 months now. The group has been on remand since last year when they were arrested at Kalangala during NUP presidential campaigns. The prosecution alleges that the suspects on January 3, at Makerere Kavule Kigundu zone, found in possession of four rounds of ammunition which is a monopoly of the Defense Forces. Last week on Monday all the 35 were further remanded to Kitalya prison after the prosecution told the court the bail officers were absent from court. NUP lawyers led by Antony Wameli had given up on seeking bail from the military court and run to the civilians’ court seeking justice but they were sent back to the court-martial on grounds that their case was triable in the prior court.
