Committee top places in the 11th Parliament have preoccupied debate on the corridors, canteen and Chief Whips offices as Independent MPs cry foul.

Deputy Speaker Anitah Among oversaw the plenary sitting to last Tuesday when the house completed the designation of MPs to the different sectoral and standing committees of Parliament.

Independent MPs were not among the heads selected for the different sectoral and standing committees of Parliament.

In particular, Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko raised concern to Speaker Among over the designation to Members to Committees contrary to the wishes.

MP Nsereko said: “The law allows the Independent MPs (67) to be designated to Committees of their choice.”

Speaker Among politely dismissed the former NRM legislator turned independent’s concern, and said: “The designation is subject to Amendment.”
