Parliament loses twitter account to hackers

Parliament has said Tuesday that the institution’s Twitter handle has been taken over by a hacker.

According to Chris Obore, the Director Communication and Public Affairs at Parliament, the account was hacked into unknown individuals this month and efforts to recover the account have proved futile.

In a write up dated May 09, 2023, Obore says the institution resorted to opening a fresh account maintaining the old name but verified with a grey badge.

“The Parliament’s twitter account was hacked and despite our best efforts, we were not able to recover it. However we were able to recover the user name and we have created a new account to ensure that we continue providing updates and engage with you as we have always done,” the statement reads in part.

Obore has assured the public that they will up all safety measures to ensure that the new account ‘@Parliament _Ug’ is not hacked.

“We assure the public that we are taking all necessary steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. We urge you to follow our new account @Parliament _Ug for plenary  updates  and official communication from parliament,” Obore says.
