Centenary Bank, Uganda’s leading commercial microfinance bank, has today launched the 5 FOR 5 Jackpot campaign aimed at rewarding customers for using the bank’s digital banking channels to transact. The bank also unveiled CenteOn the Go, a new feature on the CenteMobile app that will enable customers open up any bank account without the need to visit any bank branch and submit paperwork.

 “CenteOn the Go means the Bank is taking more services online and has designed this to increase convenience for potential customers who wish to sign up and enjoy our wide-range of affordable financial services. This feature will empower them to register for a new bank account at anytime, anywhere around the world,’’ said Mr. Fabian Kasi, the Managing Director Centenary Bank. “The new platform will enable the customer have access to all of Centenary Bank’s digital channels making their banking experience more enjoyable.”

The bank also announced its strategic partnerships with Craft Silicon and Jumia Uganda. The former provides the mobile banking system on which the CenteOn the go platform runs, while the latter shall avail their online market place for the Bank’s customers to pay for goods and services during the campaign.

Fabian explained, “Our Collaboration on a successful E-commerce ecosystem will provide our customers who hold Visa and Mastercard Cards with quality products and services as they Shop and stand a chance to win cash for every purchase made”. We are glad to be joined by our partners Jumia Uganda and Craft Silicon as we launch our campaign. The Craft Silicon team have been with us for a couple of years, providing platforms where we run some of our services. We are also excited to partner with Jumia, who share our agenda of bringing services and products closer to customers conveniently.’

Beatrice Lugalambi, the General Manager: Corporate Communications and Marketing at Centenary Bank said that, “The launch of the 5 for 5 Jackpot campaign is another way Centenary Bank is expressing its gratitude to its customers for continuously embracing and taking up our digital services using CenteVisa, Centeagent and Centemobile. 30 New and existing customers shall be rewarded weekly with Ugx 100,000 when you transact 5 times using any of our digital channels from all over the country.

“The mechanics of the campaign have been simplified to include everyone. Simply transact more than 5 times using any of the Bank’s alternative channels; CenteMobile, CenteAgent, and CenteVisa, and stand a chance to be among the 30 winners that will be announced weekly for the next three months. We have over 4,000 CenteAgents stationed countrywide, 188 bank ATMs, and the CenteVisa and CenteVisa Prepaid cards readily available for use and uptake,” she explained further calling upon the existing and potential customers to take part and not miss out on this exciting promo.

The campaign ambassadors where also unveiled, that is Mr. Abbey Mukiibi, a celebrated Ugandan drama actor and radio presenter and a multi-award-winning Ugandan musician Mr. Wycliffe Tugume alias Ykee Benda. The duo will spearhead campaign engagements and encourage their audiences to participate in this reward campaign. “We are glad to work with such individuals who love people and are part of our community and we believe our partnership will enable us to reach out and support more people,” she said.  

The Covid-19 Pandemic has necessitated that we continue to encourage our customers to stay safe, save time while banking in close proximity. Our customers are encouraged to deposit and withdraw at the agent, use ATMs, shop online, fuel using cards, make payments and transfers using cente mobile. Go cashless Go digital is the new banking age.

The new campaign is expected to help boost the bank’s digital transactions in its continued effort to promote financial inclusion in Uganda. According to Boston Consulting Group, in 2020, 400 million consumers in sub-Saharan Africa use mobile payment banking systems and this is expected to grow to between 650 million to 750 million customers by 2025. Agent Banking users are also expected to grow. The growth will be largely attributed to individuals and businesses embracing the digital platforms for carrying our transactions.
