Express FC exit Stanbic Uganda Cup

Express FC 0-1 Bul FC

Bul FC will play Vipers SC in the finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Bul FC made a huge statement knocking Express FC out of the Stanbic Uganda Thursday afternoon at FUFA Technical Centre at Njeru.

A lone goal by Owen Mukisa in the 26th minute was all Alex Isabirye needed to advance his exciting and collective team play their maiden final.

Mukisa scored a glorious goal, curling the ball home from the left wing with Denis Otim left helpless in the Red Eagles goal.

Isabirye exposed Express FC who are fresh from exiting the CAF Africa Champions League who were knocked out of the competition by Sudan giants El Merrikh.

The Jinja based outfit had Ibrahim Mugulusi, Mukisa, Thomas Kabaale, Martin Aprem, Musa Esenu and Joseph Ssemujju on top of their game. They had so much chemistry leaving Wasswa Bbosa’s Uganda Premier League champions chasing second balls.

Bul’s midfield quartet made life uneasy for the Express FC creative spark of Muzamilu Mutyaba, Martin Kizza, goal machine Eric Kambale and forward George Ssenkaba.

Bossa’s charges can only be said to have had impact in the game at the very beginning when they could have even had an early lead but they did not make good use of flying crosses mainly from their stylish left back Kiggundu.

Ssenkaba’s movement across the Bul FC backline simply did not give the Red Eagles opportunities to tie up the game.

Attempts by Bossa to try and rescue a goal and may drag the game into extra time and penalties failed even after introducing fresh legs.

The Express FC tactician withdrew creative brains Kizza and Mutyaba for Etrude Abel and Mayanja respectively.

The telling opportunity had Charles Musiige finding himself within the Bul FC goal area but saw it fly over the wood works.

Bossa will have to give his boys some rest as it appeared there several tired legs after the CECAFA Club and CAF Champions league engagements.

He told the club’s website: “We’re out of the Uganda Cup but we prepared well. We knew Bul was a good side. They used their chance while we didn’t. We failed to concentrate in front of goal but we’re going back to prepare and correct the mistakes. It’s bad we’re out but we shall bounce back stronger just we did when we won the Kagame Cup and the league.”
