The Ugandan music industry has been hit hard by the prevalent pandemic with the ban on events and nightlife for more than 18 months. This shut cuts off the income of millions of creatives whose day-to-day lives earlier relied on music. The pandemic also shattered dreams of rising stars who considered Music a trade they’d bank on, seeing the grievances from their predecessors.

In partnership with UNDP, The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, and TAG Studios, Tooro Kingdom looks to support its artists in the upcoming Ekyooto Ha Mpango festival by setting up a 3-day mobile studio.

This will give fresh talent from the region a free opportunity to get their music recorded, mastered, and produced by industry professionals.

In his remarks, while launching “Tooro Kingdom’s Vision 2045” and the Ekyooto Ha Mpango festival, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV noted that, “Youths are our greatest asset and hope for the future. However, most of these youths are facing unemployment challenges because they do not have the skills required for them to benefit from existing opportunities.”

The mobile TAG studios will also provide opportunities for youthful producers to learn from and work on projects with industry experts.

There’ll also be a platform for the fresh talent to collaborate with celebrated artists from Tooro region and Kampala, sign agency deals, and be recognized both nationally and internationally through the Virtual Music Concert.

The Deputy Minister of Information from Tooro Kingdom, Owek Vincent Mugume Araali in his message urges creatives from Tooro region to get to the drawing board and ensure they are ready to utilize this opportunity
come November.

The studios will be open to talent from the entire region and interested artists can sign up through the festival website www.ekyoototooro.com or call/Whatsapp 0777564997 with details to book studio time.

The first edition of the annual Ekyooto Ha Mpango festival will broadcast on NBS TV will run from the 25th to the 28th of November 2021 in Fort Portal and it’s open to a few physical participants.

Tickets are on a first come first serve basis on the above-mentioned website and contact.
