Learners given differing dates
The Ministry of Education has warned schools against admitting learners before the official set date of January 10, 2022.
This is contained in a circular released on January 2 by the Ministry indicating a staggered reopening plan for schools in the districts of Kampala,Wakiso ,Mpigi and Mukono. This has been done to minimize road traffic congestion in the Kampala Metropolitan Area during the reopening after a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
It also follows a directive from President Yoweri Museveni to the Education Ministry for a detailed plan on reopening of schools for purposes of organization.

According to the plan, all schools including international and those with boarding sections have been directed not to admit learners prior to the official set date of January 10. However, all learners in day schools are mandated to report on the official date.

“All learners in day schools shall report on Monday the January 10, 2022 for class. All learners in boarding schools in the districts of Wakiso, Mpigi, Mukono, and Kampala shall follow a staggered reporting plan with effect from Monday 10, January, 2022 and no boarding Students in the concerned districts shall report for school earlier than January 10, 2022,” the Education Ministry said in a statement.
The Education Ministry is working with the Kampala Capital City Authority, KCCA, district local governments, security and the Ministry of Works and Transport to ensure the reopening plan is a success.
Learners given differing dates
It has also been stated that all learners must ensure that they provide them with a mask while travelling to school using both public and private means.
According to the released programme, boarding learners in Wakiso and Mpigi districts will be required to report back between January 10 and 12.
“For those in Mpigi and Wakiso districts, the reporting dates for boarding students in A-level and those in lower primary (boarding) will be January 10 whereas those in O-level, P.5, P.6 and P.7 (in boarding) will be Wednesday January 12.”
Meanwhile, for Kampala and Mukono boarding schools, students in A-level and lower primary schools are returning on Tuesday, January, 11, 2022 while O-level, P.5, P.6 and P.7 report on Thursday January 13, 2022.
A staggered reporting plan that goes beyond January 13, 2022 for schools is fine provided no learners report before January 10, 2022, the ministry directive states.
