Draw against Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast and Algeria go head-to-head in the crucial last game in Group E of the African Cup of Nations.

Ivory Coast are currently top of the group and heading into the knockout stages of the competition. A draw would be enough for the Elephants to book their place in the last 16.

Patrice Beaumelle’s team have picked up four points from their opening first two group games. They opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea before a 2-2 draw with Sierra Leone last time out.

The results at the AFCON so far mean that Ivory Coast have suffered just one defeat in their last 14 international matches. They are also unbeaten in 90 minutes in the competition in their last five matches, recording three wins.

However, they did suffer a penalty kick defeat against Wednesday night’s opponents in the 2019 edition of this competition.

Reigning champions Algeria are experiencing a nightmare tournament so far. The Desert Warriors drew their opening game 0-0 against Sierra Leone. However, worse was yet to come, as they went down to a 1-0 defeat against Equatorial Guinea in their last outing.

Draw against Ivory Coast

The result was one of the biggest shocks in the recent history of the African Cup of Nations. The fact that Djamel Belmadi’s team has yet to find the net in Cameroon is concerning, especially as they have so many talented attacking players.

The scenario for Algeria is simple, they must win this game or face the humiliation of exiting the competition at the group stage for the second time in the last three African Cup of Nations.
