1.5 m UGX bribe from defilement suspect 

Charles Bwiiso the Masindi Resident State Attorney who accepted a 1.5 million shilling bribe to exempt a defilement suspect from jail time has been produced and charged in court.

Bwiiso was netted red handed receiving a bribe by the State house Anti -Corruption Unit after he blindly fell into a trap laid for him. Police was tipped that the suspect had negotiated a 3 million deal with the family to the defiler, Joseph Arinaitwe in exchange for freeing him and trashing the case.

The suspect appeared before the Anti corruption court alongside his accomplice and detective at Masindi Police post Sgt Kinihira Rehema.

1.5 m UGX bribe from defilement suspect

The Anti corruption court Joan Aciro charged the duo with corruption and soliciting for a gratification from relatives of suspect in the defilement case contrary to section 2(a), 26 of the Anti Corruption Act 2019 .

Both Bogere and Rehema have been given a cash bail of 600k while their substantial sureties have been granted a 40 million non cash.

Story background

Arinaitwe was previously accused of aggravated defilement involving a minor, the case was reported to police at Masindi Police Station but the suspect refused to turn up despite summons.

Later, Arinaitwe’s family pleaded with the victim’s family for an out of court settlement that was agreed to.A written agreement was drawn between the two families mediated by Bwiiso who was promised 1.5 m shillings after negotiations.

However, the victims family had played the suspect and instead reported the matter to Anti corruption unit at State house hence laying a trap. Bwiiso fell into the trap when he duly received 1 million shillings and directed the District Criminal Investigations Division(CID)  officer hand him the file for legal counsel. He was consequently netted by Police .
