Among resigns as Deputy Speaker
After registering a historical margin of votes against her rival to taking the Speaker of Parliament position, Hon Anita Among has released her prior position.
Hon Among tendered in her resignation moments after the Chief Justice of Uganda Owiny Dollo officially declared her as Speaker of the 11th parliament. The Clerk to Parliament, Hon Adolf Mwesige declared the seat of Deputy Speaker vacant after receiving her official resignation.
Among, also the Bukedea District Woman MP emerged winner after polling 401 votes against 66 votes garned by her rival Asuman Basalirwa.

Basalirwa ,the opposition choice for Speaker praised the elections as free, open and democratic,he committed to work with the Rt Hon Among.

Among was nominated by the Prime Minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja and seconded by Hamson Obua, Ajuri County MP.
Among will now preside over the election of her Deputy. The race is tight between former government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa and FDC’s Moses Okot Bitek. Tayebwa was declared as an official flag bearer unopposed, during the NRM Parliamentary Caucus on Thursday.
