Vipers to play relegation hopefuls

Mbarara City will host Vipers in the first leg in a way to return to Stanbic Uganda Cup final after the semifinals draw held on Thursday at FUFA House in Mengo.

The 5th round shall comprise of four teams in what is called the semi finals. Games shall be played on a home and away basis and the winner with the best aggregate shall qualify to the finals.

Shawn Mubiru who acts as the professional league manager at FUFA announced the four teams that have reached this stage that included Boma fc, Mbarara City fc, Bul fc as well as defending champions Vipers sports club.

The current top scorers of this season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup include Bul’s Karim Nduggwa with five goals on the same tally as Yunus Sentamu Junior of Vipers.

Regional side Boma fc of Kitara region that comes from Masindi will play Bul fc from Jinja whereas Mbarara City fc from Mbarara will host defending champions Vipers SC in the first legs.

The first legs will be played between 10th-12th May and a week after second legs shall be played between 17th-19th May.

The final shall be played in Kitara region in Masindi on either 11th or 12th of June 2022.

Vipers SC, eyeing a double having won the UPL recently, are favourites to retain this title. In last year’s final, they beat BUL FC 8-1 at Njeru and will use their chances against Mbarara City who are still in race to survive UPL relegation.
