Liverpool tipped to keep title hopes

Fresh from securing the FA Cup, Liverpool will be looking to keep their Premier League title dreams alive when they face Southampton at St Mary’s on Tuesday night.

As they head into their penultimate game, the Reds find themselves four points behind Manchester City with a game in hand over the league leaders.

Meanwhile, Southampton are down in fifteenth place – six points outside the relegation zone and 46 points behind Liverpool.

Southampton head into Tuesday’s clash on a four-game winless run. After losing to Burnley, they drew with Brighton before suffering back-to-back defeats against Crystal Palace and Brentford.

When you look at the bigger picture, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have only managed to win one of their previous ten Premier League outings.

When the Saints notched a run of one loss in ten Premier League matches between December and February, a top-half finish was very much of the cards.

On the flip side, Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties to win the FA Cup on Saturday. Despite racking up 17 shots throughout the game, they failed to find a way through.

It is also worth pointing out that Liverpool have won eight of their last nine matches in all competitions, meaning they will be confident of dispatching struggling Southampton.

Head-to-head: Liverpool thrashed Southampton 4-0 in the reverse fixture back in November, with Diogo Jota bagging a brace on that occasion.

The Reds have won eight of their previous nine Premier League meetings with the Saints, keeping six clean sheets along the way.

Team news: Southampton have just one injury absentee at the moment, with Tino Livramento out for the season.

As for Liverpool, they look set to be without the injured trio of Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah for the trip to the south coast.
