Students at Iganga High School are now struggling to replace properties lost after fire gutted the boy’s dormitories on Sunday afternoon.

The fire started at 9:00 pm escalated to two dormitories housing senior three and senior four male students while learners were out for evening preps.

The school authorities have confirmed that no one was injured or died as a result of the fire. However, property worth millions, including mattresses, books, shoes, clothing and other scholastic materials were burnt in the process.

Students who prefer anyonimity claim the fire could have been caused by a faulty electricity connection because thay saw sparks bright as lightening frm the one dormitory, moments before it went up in flames.

Others say they realized fire had broken out after witnessing huge clouds of smoke and red flames school coming from the dormitories. and the run to see, it was later established that fire had gutted the school.

The students who run out of their classes towards the dormitories in shock claim they tried to break into the fire to remove personnel belongings but were denied access. They further state that the flames became stronger and by the time police arrived at the scene most of their property had been reduced to ashes.

Busoga East Police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula says police are still investigating the exact cause of the fire . 

Nandawula says they suspect loose electricity lines within the boys’ dormitory area might have sparked off the fire. 

This month alone, police has registered over three incidents of fire outbreaks in schools under unclear circumstances.

Last week on Friday, fire gutted a boys dormitory at Mbarara Senior Secondary School destroying property worth millions in shillings. The fire which broke out at about 09:45 am in the morning burned down Nyerere House boy’s dormitory housing 78 learners in Senior one and two.

No fatality or injuries were reported in the incident but  properties including books, mattresses and beddings were completely destroyed by the fire.

On June 08, a vicious fire broke out at four dormitories in Bwera Secondary School in Mpodwe Lhubiriha Town Council, Kasese District leaving property worth over 10m shillings damaged.
The fire that gutted the boy’s dormitories while students were attending prep in class. Properties including mattresses, books, jerry cans, clothes, and money, among others were damaged in the process.

Prior to that, two separate schools in kampala were destroyed in fire after two learners set them ablaze.

The misbehaving pupils aged 11 and 16 belonging to Young Elite Primary School in Kasokoso and MH Junior School Nabbingo, respectively,both admitted to starting fires at both schools because they were fed up with learning.
