Man kills boss’s wife

The Police in Kalangala has arrested Simon Bahati for killing the expectant wife of his boss over 240,000 shillings. Bahati, 18, a Congolese national is a casual worker at an oil palm plantation at Lwabaswa landing site village in Kalangala.

James Mugoya Nandu, the Police Community Liaison Officer in Kalangala, says Bahati, who went into hiding for a week after Olivia Nantaba was killed, turned himself in at Lwabaswa Landing Site village police post on Wednesday.

Bahati and another suspect identified as Alex Matovu are accused of killing Nantaba on July 15 and hiding her corpse in a bush, which is a few metres from her home.

According to Nantaba’s husband Ndyamuhaki, Matovu and Bahati were working at his oil palm plantation and have been demanding that he clears their payments of 240,000 and 150,000 shillings respectively. He, however, says that the suspects stormed his home that fateful night in his absence demanding their pay.

Ibrahim Wagaba, the Vice Chairman of Lwabaswa Landing Site village, says that Nantaba told Matovu that her husband was away from home. Nantaba’s sister, who was also at home that night, told residents that Matovu asked Nantaba to give him money without fail.

When Nantaba said her husband had not left the money with her, Matovu got angry.

According to Wagaba, Matovu lost his cool and picked a stick from the compound, and hit Nantaba around the neck and other body parts.
