The Flying Squad Unit (FSU) has commenced a manhunt for gun-wielding thugs who shot dead James Amuriat, a security guard at Nesta pump fuel station in Lusaze in Rubaga Division Kampala City. Amuriat, who was attached to the SGA security group, met his death on Friday when the thugs approached the pump fuel station masquerading as clients who wanted to buy fuel in a jerrycan.
One of the thugs drew out a pistol and shot Amuriat three times. Quoting a team of police officers who responded to the incident, Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, said that preliminary findings show the killers were dressed in black clothes and it was difficult for anyone to suspect that they were thugs.
Without revealing details, Owoyesigyire said that the Flying Squad Unit was trailing the movement of the killers to answer for Amuriat’s murder. Police findings have also revealed that the attackers actually bought fuel in a jerrycan to disguise their planned cruel act.
Ashraf Katana, who claims to have heard the shooting, said Amuriat’s killers first kept watch of the area perhaps waiting for clients to reduce. “When they shot him, they came running with a gun and they entered their car and sped off. The Askari was rushed to Lubaga Hospital but doctors said he was already dead,” Katana said.
Owoyesigyire confirmed that indeed there were efforts to save Amuriat’s life but he seemed to have died from the scene. The deceased’s body was rushed to Mulago Hospital for a postmortem. Lubaga area leaders led by the Deputy Resident City Commissioner Anderson Burora are currently planning to convene a meeting to deliberate on security in the area.
This is the third time thugs are attacking Nesta fuel pump station. One of the incidents was repulsed in Bweyogerere by Flying Squad while the one on Semuto road was successfully executed and the security guard Francis Wetaka killed.
