Big Size Bebe Cool’s new Amapiano jam, Nyege Nyege, might have got a lukewarm reception from a section of music lovers but at least he has something else to soothe his heart.
Nyege Nyege, a song the controversial veteran artist dropped on the market this week on Tuesday to tactically ride on the famous Nyege Nyege Festival, which is happening this weekend in Jinja, has received a share of criticism, with some entertainment pundits labelling it a flop already. But interestingly, the song is trending No.7 on YouTube, with 35,518 views at the time of writing. That is something to celebrate about, no?
And now that he is among the six Ugandans to scoop nominations for the prestigious All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), 2022 edition , surely Bebe Cool reserves all the bragging rights and he might step on your toe if you try to tell him otherwise!
Eddy Kenzo, Spice Diana, King Saha, DJ Lito, Sheilah Gashumba, Slick Stuart, and DJ Roja join Bebe on the list of nominees to wave the Ugandan flag high as outstanding local performers such as Azawi, Winnie Nwagi and Sheebah miss out.
Bebe Cool has somewhat struggled musically for the past two years without a significant hit song but AFRIMA award committee found him befitting.
The International Executive Committee of AFRIMA released the nominees on Wednesday.
According to the list, Eddy Kenzo and King Saha are competing for the Best Male Artiste in East Africa gong. Saha was nominated for his song Zakayo while Sango put Kenzo on the list.
They are battling with 12 other male singers in that category, including Diamond Platinumz, who appeared on the list because of Mtasubiri, his collabo with Zuchu.
Spice Diana, for Tujooge, her hit collabo with DJ Seven, appeared in the Best Female Artiste in East Africa, where she is competing with Zuchu, Nikita Kering, Tanasha Donna, and other songbirds from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania.
DJ Lito is competing for the gong of Best African DJ with nine others, including DJ Snake and Uncle Waffles.
Spice Diana scored another nomination under Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Dance or Choreography for the same aforementioned song.
Tick Talk, the song on which Bebe Cool features DJ Lito, Sheilah Gashumba, and the duo of Slick Stuart & DJ Roja, saw the five land a nomination in the category of Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Reggae, Ragga, Dancehall. They are competing with the likes of Fave, Ruger, and KiDi in this group.
Top African artists like Burna Boy, Davido, Tiwa Savage, and Rema, and global stars like Drake, Chris Brown, Justin Beiber, and Popcaan scored nominations.
