Six sumbie vendors busted
Police in Mukono have nabbed six ‘sumbie’ vendors for beating a client to death in a local lodge over UGX1,000.
The police are also holding the Recess Bar and Lodges Manager identified as Abbass Kigundu in relation to the incident that happened on 19th September 2022.
While addressing the media, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, said out of eleven sex vendors first arrested, only six remain in police custody at Wantoni, Mukono Municipality after a screening exercise. Onyango has declined to reveal their identities so as not to interfere with the ongoing investigations.

He added that police is yet to retrieve a postmortem report from Mulago before sending the case file to the State Attorney for perusal and legal advice.
“We have recorded statements from relevant witnesses and screened the 12 suspects that we had initially arrested and remained with only six in custody and we have enough evidence pinning them on this murder case,” Onyango said.
Local authorities at Ggulu Ward, Wantoni, allege that on that fateful night, the deceased approached eleven sumbie vendors workers standing near the bar lodge and demanded for a romping session.
After long minutes of negotiating, one of them settled for UGX5,000 from the deceased for her services, to which the deceased agreed.
The deceased reportedly gave the woman a five thousand shilling note and demanded for the balance of UGX1,000, which the sumbie worker declined to return.
He later decided to confiscate the girl’s phone over the UGX1,000, prompting her to sound an alarm for help. Her colleagues immediately pounced on the man, killing him on spot.
By the time police arrived at the scene, the man had passed on.
