The Ministry of Health has confirmed the death of the first medical doctor to have died from Ebola.

The virus was confirmed weeks ago in Mubende.

Over 35 have been confirmed the have caught the Virus.

4 of them are medical practitioners.

However, one of the four doctors has died. The deceased has been identified as Dr. Mohammed Ali, 37.

“I regret to announce that we have lost our first doctor, Dr Mohammed Ali, a Tanzanian National, 37yr old Male today at 3:15am. He tested positive of Ebola on Sept 26, 2022 and died while receiving treatment at Fort Portal RRH, Isolation facility ( JMedic),” Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng announced Saturday morning.

Dr. Aceng condoled with Dr. Ali’s family.

“I condole with his family, medical fraternity, KIU university and the people of Tanzania. Dr. Ali is the first Doctor, and second health worker to have succumbed to Ebola. The first was a midwife from St Florence Clinic, a probable case, because she died before testing,” Dr. Aceng added.

By last evening, the ministry had confirmed 35 cumulative confirmed cases and 7 deaths.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health concluded a district Ebola response assessment in Kyegegwa District.

“I am pleased with their organization and district leadership. Our teams on ground have oriented the district task force, surveillance teams, sample removers and risk communication,” Dr. Aceng said.

Meanwhile, two survivors of Ebola at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital were Friday discharged by Dr. Aceng.

“Unfortunately one of the recovered patients lost his wife and child to Ebola,” the Minister said.
