The Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances under which a man committed suicide under unclear circumstances.

The deceased identified as Sseguya Trevor Mathew shocked by standers and locals when he jumped off Natete Business centre and died instantly at 1pm on Tuesday.

Eye witnesses who observed the deceased moments before he committed suicide say he seemed fine and in a good mood. They say Sseguya was jolly as he greeted people with a smile and maintained calmness and a sane attitude

Luke Owoyesigyire , the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson says the Police were informed of the incident by the manager, Natete business centre, and that the officers responded by taking the lifeless body of the deceased to City mortuary Mulago.

He says police have since recorded statements from a number of people although the exact motive of the suicide is currently unknown. Owoyesigyire says investigations into the matter have commenced.

Owoyesigyire has cautioned members of the public to always seek help from the relevant authorities like local leaders and police instead of committing suicide.

This is not the first time in a space of months that someone is committing suicide under similar circumstances.

Recently, a man jumped from the fifth floor of Mulago National Referral Hospital and died for unknown reasons.The deceased, Joseph Waswa, was a resident of Kyebando, a suburb of Kampala City.

Waswa died from injuries that he sustained as he was found with a lot of bruises. Police said the authorities checked through the records of the hospital and the deceased had not been admitted for treatment.

On October 07, 2022, a Ugandan man working in Qater passed on after falling off from a tall building. It is yet to be established if he fell on his own or was pushed.

The deceased was identified as Musinguzi Humphrey, a born from Nyarushanje sub county in Rukungiri district.

In March 2022, a fresh graduate from Kyambogo University committed suicide after failing to get a job.  Brian Wetaka, who graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering returned to his former lecture room block at the university and committed suicide there.
