Police in Busoga North, on Thursday confirmed the arrest of CPL Abu Isabirye, over the robbery of 95 Million Shillings from Kobil Goswami, the cashier of GM sugar weigh bridge located in Kamuli district during the night of 26th, November, 2022.

Isabirye joins five other suspects who are currently detained at Kamuli central police station over similar charges.

Isabirye has been serving as the officer in charge of the newly closed Luzinga police post located in Kamuli district.

At the time of his arrest, Isabirye had been recalled at Kamuli central police station headquarters, pending redeployment.

It is reported that unknown assailants surrounded Goswami at his home located in Luzinga zone 1, in Wankole sub county, in Kamuli district and robbed him of the money, which had been wrapped in a black bag.

The attackers shot Goswami in the left shoulder and he is still receiving treatment Jinja’s  Nile International Hospital.

Five employees of GM weigh bridge who include; Moses Kiirya, Alex Waibale, Malicana Kiirya, Adam Baliruno and Painedo Ojole, were early this week arrested over their suspected involvement in the robbery.

The suspects who are still detained at Kamuli central police station denied all the allegations against them, arguing that they quickly alerted police authorities to intervene a few minutes after the attack.

The Busoga North police spokesperson, Michael Kasadha confirms the arrest adding that, Isabirye was implicated following leads from the suspects detained earlier-on.

Kasadha further says that detectives are still examining available exhibits to quicken the arrest of other suspects still at large.
