Keddi Steven the C.E.O Kedi foundation traveled to the Pallisa district with $10,000 in Search of Five-year-old Omiat Shakur who went viral on social media after a story of him collecting plastic bottles to raise money to look after his grandmother and two siblings was aired on NTV recently.

Keddi revealed that the story which has brought hope and joy to the family after a number of well-wishers came to the family’s aide touched him hence the need to donate a little of what he has.
“I was also a boy like Shakur, my grandmother raised me from the age of one month after my mother died, I have suffered and endured a lot.

Throughout my education, I was educating myself, am a hustler, and made it through one person. When God Gave me money, I decided not to go to bars or spend it on women, not build fancy houses but rather give to the less privileged” he said.

Shakur who is in Primary one takes care of his grandmother Christine Asio who was a casual laborer working in people’s gardens before developing a back problem which has since then hindered her from working to cater for the family.

Mr. Keddie gave the grandmother $5,000 (Shs18.5m) to enable her set up three business projects that can cater to the family since she suffers from a back problem and also gave Shakur School fees worth $5,000 (Shs18.5m) which will facilitate his entire education on top a bursary from Primary upto the University.

Keddie noted that with the local leaders, an account would be opened in Stanbic bank where the money will be deposited and Shakur won’t have to look for a job after University since one will already be waiting for him with Keddi foundation.

Mr. Keddi who also donated household and scholastic materials said the foundation will build a fully furnished self bedroomed house for the grandmother in which to look after her grandchildren and pay off a debt of Shs 555,000 on the land on which her current two grass-thatched houses seat.
