Armed robbers steal Shs30 million

Police in Mukono are looking for unidentified gunmen for robbing 30 million shillings from a sales agent attached to a beer depot in Mbalala.

The incident happened on Tuesday at 9:30 pm at Kiteega village when Okidi Gerald a salesman attached to Premids ltd Depot was stabbed and robbed from a Tata Lorry Registration Number UBL 557W.

Okidi was attacked and injured by goons with one gun and sharp knives clad in black jackets riding on a numberless motorcycle.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says Okidi left the depot with his manager identified as Obwin Christopher to supply Bell beer within Mukono. They were in the company of Makuba Henry a driver of the car and other three loaders namely Mukwata Patrick, Kigayi Stephen and Waibi Ayub.

Onyango says while in the field, Okidi’s manager kept depositing money from their sales with mobile money agents. However, at about 9:30 pm, Okidi was left by his colleagues alone in the truck with large sums of money, in the process the thugs approached him and robbed him.

Onyango told our reporter Minah Nalule that when Okidi sounded an alarm as the thugs attempted to rob him prompting one of them to stab him in the ribs before running away with Shs 30,000,000/= (thirty million shillings).

He says Okidi is currently admitted at Sir Albert General Clinic and Nursing Home Mukono.

He explains that Police are now investigating a case of aggravated robbery and police officers led by DPC Mukono SP E.Kyeyune visited the scene of crime and recovered six cartridges.

Onyango says preliminary findings show that the manager routinely banks money collected every Tuesday at the same place and at the same time .The vehicle had no security for the money.
