Orphan embarrasses Museveni, Bobi Wine & Muntu in Serere
An orphan, Emmanuel Omoding has left top political honchos embarrassed after locals in Serere County on Thursday chose him as Member of Parliament elect.
Results released late in the night show that Omoding polled 15,638 votes followed by the NRM’s Phillip Oucor with 13,206 votes and Alice Alaso of the Alliance for National Transformation garnered 3,335 votes, Eng. Martin Onguruco got 2,523 and FDC’s Emmanuel Eratu came in last with 1,252 votes.
Serere District Returning Officer Sylvia Cheptegei stated that over 35.000 locals voted across 138 poling stattions and the exercise was mostly peaceful. She says results from four polling stations were cancelled because of violence including Olumoi PAG Church and Odokai in Atiira Sub County, Angole Primary School Polling Station in Kyere Sub County and Kangod Primary School Polling Station in Ocaapa Town Council, where cases of malpractices had earlier been reported.
Omoding, 42, a son to the deceased Serere County MP Patrick Okabe, who perished in accident with his wife in December 2022 was endorsed by government big wigs to replace Okabe and keep his legacy alive by accomplishing unfulfilled promises for constituents in Serere County.

During Okabe’s burial, of Parliament including Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, and the Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua endorsed Okabe, asocial worker based in Australia to succeed his father.
However, the NRM’s EC Chairperson Dr Tanga Odoi objected to the proposal and endorsed Phillip Oucor instead.
Unlike the previous by-elections where the NRM secretariat participated in full swing, the Serere by-election was dominated by the party’s National Mobilizer Rosemary Sseninde and the party’s Director of Communication Emmanuel Dombo Lumala. They were boasted by the arrival of the NRM National Chairman, President Yoweri Museveni on the last day of the campaigns. Other top politicians who camped in the region were Gen Mugisha Muntu of ANT and Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine. However, despite all their efforts, the orphan rose above Museveni, Bobi Wine and Gen. Muntu.
