Wednesday features early-evening clashes from Groups A and L, with Sierra Leone hosting Sao Tome & Principe and Rwanda visiting Benin respectively.

Rwanda are chasing their first win in Group L, with coach Carlos Alos Ferrer under pressure to deliver improved results after recently signing a new contract with the country’s football federation.

“We have important matches against Benin, ones which will decide whether we are still in the fight to qualify to the next AFCON,” said Ferrer. “I hope to see the players have commitment and strength, to represent the people of their country with pride.”

Thursday brings three clashes, headlined by Ghana hosting Angola for a top-of-the-log battle in Group E.

Chris Hughton will have his first match in charge of the Black Stars and is being backed to lead the team to new heights by former captain John Mensah: “Chris is in to do an excellent job and wants success for the Black Stars, so we should support him.

“Our support as a nation will boost him to make rightful decisions and make the nation proud once again. There’s no time again than to throw our full support for Hughton to build a formidable team that can compete.”

Thursday’s other two matches see Group C leaders Cameroon tackle Namibia in Yaounde, as well as Lesotho visiting Ndola for a clash with Zambia in Group H.

Namibia face a tough task in trying to match the Indomitable Lions in their own back yard, but Brave Warriors coach Collin Benjamin believes an injection of youth into the squad could make a huge difference.

“I still think that what we need right now as a nation is energy. I think with that we are not going to outplay any opponent but we can outwork any opponent,” noted Benjamin. “We are looking for players who are basically going above their boundaries, players who have talent and putting it in the team, and these young players, we believe, deserve a chance.”
