Teacher summoned for flogging female student during examination

Police in Hoima City have issued summons to a high school teacher on allegations of severally flogging a female student under unclear circumstances.

The suspect Justus Mukiibi, a teacher at Premier Secondary School was reported to police by his alleged victim, identified as Joan Nyangoma, also a senior two student at the same school.

Joan Nyangoma filed a police report of assault at Hoima police station under SD Ref 60/17/03/2023 accusing Mukiibi of attacking her during an entrepreneurship examination on March 17, 2023.

In her statement, Nyangoma claims the teacher pounced on her for allegedly talking during the test. Nyangoma says she was slapped several times and locked in an office where he continued to assault her.

Nyangoma was taken to Jobita Medical Centre in Hoima City for medical attention, where she was examined and found to have been assaulted on her back, both hands, and chest.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says that police summoned the accused teacher to record a statement, but he did not show up.

“This case was reported and the matter is under investigation, the teacher was summoned to give us the facts on this case so the matter is under inquiry but we need to investigate if this girl was badly beaten as she claims. We shall get facts from the teacher and witnesses because there were students in class during the incident,” says Hakiza.

Efforts to get a comment from the school authorities on the matter remain futile as the school director and head teacher could not be reached.
