Fiorentina to break West ham

The UEFA Europa Conference League final takes place at Prague’s Fortuna Arena on Wednesday night, with Italian side Fiorentina doing battle with English club West Ham United.

This is Fiorentina’s first European final since the 1960-61 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, while West Ham are featuring in a European showpiece for the first time since the 1964-65 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

Can La Viola win the second edition of the Europa Conference League? Or will the Hammers reign supreme in Prague?

Fiorentina kicked off their Conference League campaign by finishing second in Group A, suffering a solitary defeat in six matches while notching four straight wins.

After dispatching Braga (7-2), Sivasspor (5-1) and Lech Poznan (6-4) during the knockouts, La Viola defeated Basel (4-3) to book their place in the final.

Thanks to a 3-1 victory over Sassuolo last time out, Fiorentina picked up their third victory in four league outings to finish 8th in the Serie A standings.

Having lost last month’s Coppa Italia final to Inter Milan, Fiorentina will be eager to make amends and get their hands on the Conference League silverware.

As for West Ham United, they won all six of their Conference League group games to finish 10 points clear of Anderlecht, scoring 13 goals while conceding just four.

The Hammers then knocked out AEK Larnaca (6-0) and Gent (5-2) before punching their ticket to the showpiece with a 3-1 aggregate victory over AZ Alkmaar.

David Moyes’ side finished 14th in the Premier League – six points clear of the relegation zone – despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City last time out.

Having won four of their previous six matches across all competitions, West Ham will be hopeful of overcoming Fiorentina on Wednesday.

Head-to-head: The only previous meetings between Fiorentina and West Ham came during the Anglo-Italian League Cup Winners Cup back in 1975.

Team news: Fiorentina will be without veteran goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu (Achilles) on Wednesday, so Pietro Terracciano will continue between the sticks.

West Ham also have just the one injury absentee, with Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca (knee) ruled out of the final after undergoing surgery.

The Conference League final is destined to be a close-fought battle between two clubs desperate to put their name back on the European map.
