Isingiro accident claims 8 lives in Friday night accident
A fatal accident has claimed the lives of eight people this evening.
The accident involved vehicles with registration numbers UBG 812K (bus) and UBL 945Y (fuso fighter).
Preliminary findings show that the incident occurred at Mile 17 along Mbarara-Isingiro Road in Isingiro District.
It’s alleged that the truck, which was carrying scrap and people while at Mile 17 along Isingiro-Mbarara Road from Isingiro to Mbarara, while speeding on a slope lost control and failed to break, crossing into another opposite lane of the on-coming bus belonging to Global Bus Company traveling from Mbarara to Isingiro, knocked the truck, killing instantly eight people traveling on a Fuso Fighter. One person on the bus was injured.
Traffic Police Spokesperson Michael Kananura confirmed the incident.
The victim has been taken to a nearby clinic in Isingiro for first aid, while bodies are taken to Mbarara Referral Hospital for postmortem.
“M/Vs are being towed to Isingiro Police Station for inspection. The cause of the accident is reckless driving by the driver of M/V UBL 945Y Fuso Fighter,” he said in a statement Friday night.
