Three suspects are behind coolers over the mysterious death of tycoon Henry Katanga.
Patricia Kakwanza, a local businesswoman, Charles Otai, a Nursing Officer, and George Amanyire, a shamba boy, faced charges of destroying evidence and being accessories after the fact of the murder.
The tale begins on November 2nd, 2023, in the quiet neighborhood of Mbuya Chwa 2 Road in Nakawa Division, Kampala City. The court heard that Patricia Kakwanza, allegedly in collaboration with Nkwanzi Martha Katanga (still at large), destroyed or removed crucial evidence from the crime scene, aiming to obstruct any judicial proceedings.
Shockingly, both Kakwanza and Martha Nkwanzi are said to be related to the deceased case.
On the other side of the courtroom drama, Charles Otai and George Amanyire are accused of assisting individuals involved in the crime, facilitating their escape from justice. The prosecution alleges that preliminary investigations point to Amanyire as the shamba boy who, at the behest of Molly Katanga, helped move Martha Nkwanzi Katanga after the alleged shooting incident.
The plot thickens with Molly Katanga, the wife of the deceased, singularly charged with the murder of her husband, accused of shooting him dead.
The court heard that Molly and Henry Katanga were no ordinary couple; they were involved in supplying items to key government agencies, including the Ministry of Defense.
As the accused trio appeared in court on Tuesday, they vehemently denied the charges. Their lawyer, Elson Karuhanga, attempted to secure bail, but Chief Magistrate Erias Kakooza postponed the decision until December 4th, 2023. This is the same day the accused individuals will return from Luzira prison, where they are currently remanded.
