Locals in Masaka have petitioned the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights over police cops starving suspects in detention.
Led by a social rights activist identified as Joseph Kasirye, the locals are demanding that the legislators investigate the inhumane treatment going on at police cells in the city.
Kasirye says in addition to suspects being denied food, they are congested in small police cells which is a violation of the Standard Operating Procedures-SOPs.
He cited Masaka Central Police Station where suspects are held beyond the mandatory 48 hours with no food, except for a few occasions where well wishers bring in food.
In a petition to the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, a social rights activist Joseph Kasirye wants the MPs to probe into reports of violation of suspects while in police cells.
