NRM Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa has kicked his new role for his party in the August in high gear.
The new NRM Chief Whip Tayebwa, a former Forum for Democratic Change FDC Party faithful crossed to his new home and has quickly risen up the ladders.
NRM Chief Whip Tayebwa has hit off his new assignment without fear when he confronted his former senior Ibrahim Nganda Ssemujju when he tried to question the absence of the first lady who is also the minister of education and sports Janet Kataha Museveni.
Tayebwa got tickled when the former opposition chief whip interrupted state minister John Chrysostom Muyingo’s submission by demanding to know from the deputy speaker Anitah Among why the minister of education and sports was not in the house at a time when legislators where debating a sensitive item.
The Deputy Speaker’s response that the Minister of Education was attending Plenary sittings virtually did not convince Tayebwa who demanded the FDC legislator apologizes and withdraws his submission.
The NRM Chief Whip was particularly bothered by Ssemujju’s use of the superlative ‘super minister’ to refer to the first lady for not making any appearances in the August House since the 11th Parliament kicked off.
Semujju had raised a procedural matter to inquire: “Why is it that ministers such as Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni cannot attend house plenary to answer questions paused by Members of Parliament?”
Tayebwa insisted withdrawal of the submission even after the Kiira Municipality’s apology referring to the Minister @JCMuyingo as a Personal Assistant to the Minister of Education @JanetMuseveni because of always representing her in the Plenary Sessions. “I apologise to the Minsiter JC Muyingo to the extent I offended him.”
It had to take Asuman Basalirwa and the deputy speaker Anitah to sway Tayebwa away from his fight to ensure Ssemujju did not just get away with his references.
The FDC politician then joked while taking to his seat that the NRM Chief Whip is his junior right from his days in FDC and therefore should go slow with him while in the house.
