Private schools warned

The Minister of State for Education and Sports (Higher Education), Dr. John Chyrsostom Muyingo has cautioned some private schools setting reopening dates prior to the government announcing a school calendar.

Dr. Muyingo says the Ministry of Education is yet to release a school reopening calendar which should be adhered to by all institutions of learning.

His announcement comes as the MOE issued notice to the public stating that the academic year starts on January 10 th 2022. This date has prompted a number of private institutions of learning to issue their own calendar with reopening dates starting from January 3, 2022.

However, Munyingo says schools should follow and implement the official calendar which is soon to be released by the Education ministry.

He says the detailed calendar will be issued by the permanent secretary at the MOE and will guide schools on activities they will have to follow.

The detailed calendar will be issued by the PS and this will give schools detailed information of activities that will happen and we should follow it to the letter because the PS is responsible for issuing the calendar of the year,so it will be out soon.”

Use this period to prepare for the new academic year that begins on January 10th ,2022,schools must prepare for a conducive learning environment for learners and parents need to planning for needs of learners as it reopens.”he said

Muyingo notes that the vaccination of the teachers, non-teaching staff, learners aged 18 years and above, and also the elder people above 50 years is still valid.

The government set a target to vaccinate at least 550,000 teachers and support staff, 3,348,500 people in the elderly category of 50 years and above, and also 31,000 learners who are 18 years and above. But the government has targeted to vaccinate a total of 4.5 million people in order to reopen the schools.
