Clan spirits on talking tree
Hussein Katamba, the care taker and Lugaye clan head of a mysterious tree believed to be housing spirits has warned of doom following a court order neglecting their demands.
The tree called Nabukalu has been cut to pave way for the construction of a 23.7km expressway that stalled partly because the owners of the land demanded to appease their clan spirits first.
On Thursday, High Court in Mpigi squashed demands made by Katamba and group for the government to furnish them with a whooping ugx 500m as compensation for cutting down the tree and possessing their minutiae land. The tree in question seats on a 0.083-acre piece of land.

Government body Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) had initially offered to compensate the clan 150 m for the Kibanja and cultural site but the clan declined, prompting court’s intervention. Katamba run to court
Court finally ruled in favour of UNRA, reducing the compensation to only 4.6 m for the Kibanga, neglecting the cultural site.

High Court judge, Anthony Oyuko Ojok ruled that the claimant provided no evidence to show how long the cultural site had existed.
“The evidence(provided) in no way proved that the said land was a cultural site belonging to the Lugave clan and had been in existence since the 1800s,” the judge ruled.
This decision has since angered the land owners who have prophesied days and years of disaster over this decision.
Katamba says the clan spirits will retaliate this action by reigning doom on anything in its original path after declining to appease them.
“There are many misfortunes coming ,the spirits know what is happening, They might have refused to give me what I asked for but one day they will come before me begging to give me 1 billion” said Katamba
