UMA trade show

The 28th Uganda International Trade Fair (UGITF) courtesy of the Uganda Manufacturers’ Association (UMA) has kicked off at Lugogo grounds in Kampala.

The event happening for the first time in two years, between October 3 and October 10 ,2022, attracts over 300, 000 people including VIPs , tourist visitors and the public.

The 28th Uganda International Trade Fair will run under the theme “Harnessing economic recovery through local sourcing and deepening value chain integration.”

About 800 Ugandan traders and 120 international have set up exhibition stalls to showcase and sell their products.

Rogers Kawuma Nsereko, Kampala metropolitan traffic police Commander told our reporter Minah Nalule that as part of their guidelines, they have banned the public from packing vehicles, motorcycles or trailers inside or outside the venue until the trade show ends.

He says Lugogo grounds will only accommodate pedestrians inside the event.

“We expect that vehicles have already delivered their exhibition material. We don’t expect any parking along the roads on either side of the exhibition ground (Jinja Road and the road right behind the UMA ground and leading to Nakawa market,” Nsereko says.

Nsereko warns that cars found abandoned along the road will be towed to police at the owner’s cost and inconvenience.

Kenya’s former President, Uhuru Kenyatta, and President Yoweri Museveni will both grace the event on separate days. About bout 300,000 visitors from Uganda and abroad are expected at the event daily.

This event comes as Uganda grapples with increasing cases of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) which was detected two weeks ago on September 19th .

According to latest statistics from the Ministry of Health, as of 1st October, cumulative cases of Ebola stand at 41 following 3 newly confirmed cases in the last 24 hours. 1 new death as cumulative confirmed deaths stand at 9.
