44 Ugandans Evacuated
Uganda has successfully evacuated 44 of its nationals, including two diplomatic staff and 42 students, from war-hit Iran, as the conflict between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel intensified following the outbreak of hostilities on June 13, 2025.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Uganda Embassy in Tehran, coordinated the evacuation efforts in close cooperation with Uganda’s diplomatic mission in Ankara, Turkey. An Emergency Evacuation Coordination Centre was swiftly established in Turkey to oversee the process, with Amba. Matata Twaha, Charge d’Affaires a.i., leading the operations. He is being assisted by Minister Counsellor Mr. Oscar J. Edule and Financial Attaché Mr. Agaba Mark.

The evacuation was made possible after Turkey agreed to issue emergency visas on arrival, enabling the Ugandans to cross the border at Bargarzan. According to the Ministry of foreign affairs, evacuees were received on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, by Julius Malinga, Second Secretary, Zainah Nabirye from the Uganda Embassy in Tehran, and Mubarak Daka from the Ankara mission.

The Ministry has shared contact details of the key officers managing the process, including Amb. Matata Twaha (+256772594096), Oscar Edule (+256702020277), and Julius Malinga.
