President Yoweri Museveni has confirmed he is on phone with his East African counterparts over the deadly Covid-19.

Tanzania has emerged a hot spot for the region after posting record 196 cases taking to the total number to 480 to the according to the country’s health authorities.

The country has taken top spot after going past Kenya who are at 384.

There remains concerns about the way the country has handled the spread of the virus in the country.

President John Paul Magufuli has not followed the examples of Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya to impose lock down in the country.

As such citizens have continued to work with no regulations.

The health ministry has pushing washing hands and using sanitizers.

President Magufuli has been encouraging citizens to pray for the nation.

Social distancing which has worked out for many countries, is a challenge for East Africa’s biggest country.

Such other country that has rejected lock down is Sweden where citizens freely move and access public transport and areas.

However, Tanzania’s relaxed approach to the Covid-19 has attracted attention from the neighbours.

Uganda’s latest Covid-19 cases are coming from Tanzania and Kenya. President Yoweri Museveni open the gates for truck drivers from the two nations.

However, they have contributed to the lion’s share of the recent cases.

In a bid to arrest the situation President Museveni engaged the East African leaders to find a common ground to check the spread of the Covid in the region.

The President posted on his twitter page: “I had a very long discussion with H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and H.E @PaulKagame  regarding truck drivers.

I also talked to H.E @MagufuliJP on a slightly different subject. However, President Kenyatta and President Kagame agreed that we can have a common plan for truck drivers.”

Museveni who expects to relax the lock down in the country will hope his plans shall not be jeopardized by the continued cases from the neighbours.
