Kenya Monday confirmed 25 new cases all from Nairobi and Mombasa.

The ministry of health confirmed that the total number of positive cases in the country so far is 490.

At the global level, the coronavirus disease burden is 3.3 million people infected and 238, 628 have died.

In Africa, the confirmed cases now stand at 29, 438 with 1,064 fatalities.

Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, the Ministry of Health, Chief Administrative Secretary said: “On a positive note, today we have recorded 6 discharges. This brings to 173 the total number of those who have so far recovered from the disease in the country.”

Dr. Mercy revealed: “We have managed to test 1012 samples in the last 24 hours, out of this number 25 tested positive for corona virus; 15 in Nairobi, 10 in Mombasa. All the 25 are Kenyans and none has a history of travel; 13 – male, 12-female.”

She went on: “We are trying to put in place mechanisms that will one remove stigma from the testing practise & two that we will actually facilitate Kenyans who may not afford quarantine services to be able to undergo a social assessment and get the care that they require.

Dr. Mercy stated: “While we encourage our people to continue researching on this matter it is important that this research be directed through the National Commission for Science Technology and Innovation.”

She said: “Coronavirus is now fully within our communities, & the rate of infection is not going down. To stop the infections, each and every one of us must take precaution and religiously practice the containment measures that we have consistently advocated.”

Dr. Mercy noted: “We have observed that most people are not wearing masks the proper way. A few of us hang them at our chins, until we meet a law enforcement officer. Masks act as a protective barrier to the virus, thereby reducing the possibility of infection. Let’s wear them.”

She urged: “Vendors who are allowing more than one person to fit several face masks without buying are advised to package them according to sizes to limit the possibility of contamination. This is a dangerous practice which can lead to mass infection.”

Dr. Mercy warned: “We have noticed the mushrooming of social research studies on COVID-19 pandemic by individuals & institutions. While we encourage our people to continue researching on this matter, any research must however go through @nacosti.”
