Kenya have been hit hard by their slow approach to fighting Covid-19 in the country.
Covid-19 cases hit 581 after 47 more test positive according to Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe who said 8 patients were discharged after full recovery. The number of fully recovered patients is 190.
Covid-19 death-toll in Kenya is 26 after two patients succumbed to the virus at home.
Mutahi ordered: “If you have a colleague who lives in Eastleigh and they come to stay in your house, you will be extremely foolish if you allow them knowing very well that they have not taken a test. You will be exposing yourself to the coronavirus.”
The secretary said: “Patients coming home will not be quarantined. Instead, they will be signed for and released to their doctors so they can be quarantined in premises that their doctors determine are sufficient to deal with their particular challenge.”
Mutahi warned: “I want to urge people not to break the curfew laws as severe action will be taken against those who do. If you can, work from home.”
He said: “I urge health institutions to be accountable for what they have received. I want to warn those selling PPEs delivered to their institutions. They will be arrested and will face criminal charges.”
Mutahi asserted: “Public transportation is not allowed to go into the two areas given. Cessation of movement is to protect people within those areas.”
He urged: “The cost of targeted testing for Covid-19 and government quarantine facilities shall be met by the government effective today. Kenyans should not be afraid to get tested.”
The secretary pointed out: “There shall be cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh in Nairobi and Old Town in Mombasa with effect from today at 7PM for the next 15 days.”
Mutahi also said: “There shall be closure of markets, restaurants within those 2 areas with effect from today 7PM for the next 15 days.”
Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Security Dr. Fred Okengo Matiang’i said government could be forced to use force in Mombasa’s Old Town as COVID-19 cases spike in the area.
