AFCON QUALIFIER

Full Time

Tanzania 3-0 Uganda

Uganda suffered a humiliating smashing at the hands of neighbors Tanzania who qualified for Afcon after 39 years of waiting at the national stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday afternoon.

But it was the pre-match promises from the national coach Sebastian Desabre and captain Denis Onyango that have left several glued on their TV sets puzzled as to how the team collapsed at the hands of their neighboring rivals who scored through Saimon Happygod Msuva in the 20th minute, Erasto Nyoni from the spot in the 50th minute and A. Morris in the 58th minute.

In the pre match news briefing in Dar es Salam, Captain- vowed: “It is a derby hence the importance and euphoria around it for both teams. We have to dominate the region and one of the ways is to win the game against Tanzania.”

And Coach assured: “We have prepared for the game against Tanzania like any other competitive game. Our aim is to finish on a high note and keep focused on the development of our team for June because we have already qualified to Egypt.”

Tanzania needed three points from the Uganda fixture but they supposed to fight the points they so badly wanted.

Uganda Cranes coach Desabre made it look easy for them. Alterations to the team and some under performing stars left it all in the hands of the Taifa Stars to sort it.

Tadeo Lwanga, Timothy Awani and Kirizestom Ntambi were handed their starts in a game played at a hostile national stadium environment in Dar es Salaam.

Then you have Moses Waiswa and Godfrey Walusimbi who have had a quiet season with their clubs Vipers SC and Kaizer Chiefs respectively.

Nobody would want to disrespect Desabre and his bench about allegations of the game being given away.

But how would the Frenchman explain the white washing of his side by a side many in this country believe is beatable at any one time.

We are left with two months to the kick off of the tournament in Egypt. Isn’t this supposed to be one of the test matches ahead of this significant tournament?

Will the players be ready for this big tournament after this walloping?

On the other hand, Uganda has disrespected the other sides in the same group; that is Cape Verde and Lesotho whom they ruthlessly dislodged both home and away.

This wasn’t a performance to brag about, but rather a questionable one which ought to be investigated.
