Parliament’s plenary sittings have been postponed indefinately in an announcement by the Clerk to parliament Jane Kibirige in a communication to all members of parliament .
This follows a decision by the workers MP to pitch camp at parliament the whole night over a resolution by the speaker of Parliament to delay the passing of the NSSF Bill.
Workers’ MP Sam Lyomoki objected the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s decision to delay the passing of the NSSF Bill solely staying the night at parliament .
The legislator was pictured uncomfortably spending the night on the green chairs of the parliamentary hall ,clad in a nevi blue suit, with his 2 bags and a mat to his side.
Kadaga was forced to abruptly adjourn plenary on Wednesday when Lyomoki declined to leave the floor while protesting a ruling by the speaker to postpone the second reading of the bill for a further two weeks.
Kadaga was prompted to adjourn because representatives of both the Gender and Finance ministers were absent though the bill had been placed on the order paper for the second reading.
In a presser at parliament today,Lyomoki accuses Kadaga of intentionally delaying the passing of the NSSF Bill which is at the center of a controversy between the Finance and Gender Ministries on who should run the fund.
Lyomoki says this is all a plan to delay its enactment indefinately by first postpoding until after elections when Parliament will be unable to handle business
The bill among other proposals seeks to allow workers who have reached 45 years to access 20% of their savings.
