DEAR ZZINA POWER: THINGS are unbearable with my fiancé’s parents.
I’m 23.

He’s 24 – and amazing. But he lost two previous girlfriends who couldn’t stand his parents controlling his life.

They look at his emails, check his bank account and even his location through their phones, as well as constantly texting him.

We moved in together before the first lockdown and keep them in the loop with what we do but that no longer seems good enough.

When my fiancé said he wanted to “reset” their relationship, they took offence.

Now they want back a dining table he brought to my place and are threatening legal action.

It’s a shame we fell out but they are insufferable.

ZZINA POWER SAYS: They have little in their lives apart from him and can’t release those apron strings.

If the table was theirs, it is probably easier to return it.

But after that, he must tell them their behavior is suffocating him and as an adult, he has the right to a private life.

My e-leaflet Standing Up For Yourself explains assertiveness techniques to help him get the message across.
