Gov’t Confirms 4042 People, 21 Heads of State

The minister in charge of the presidency, Esther Mbayo has revealed that over 4000 persons including heads of state will grace Gen. Museveni’s 6th swearing-in ceremony on the 12th of May 2021.

Among those included to attend the auspicious event at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds are 21 heads of State from Africa and abroad plus 4042 other dignitaries.

Mbayo who declined to disclose which heads of state will be said an invitation was extended to 42 heads of state in general. 

Among them include; all former presidential candidates, ministers and junior ministers of state, all MPs-elect, members of the Central Executive Committee, some religious and cultural leaders, 17 delegates from each district,  members of the East African Legislative Assembly, and some members of the business community.

Mbayo also refused to disclose the names of the heads of state who have confirmed attendance. She said however that invitation had been extended to 42 heads of state both from Africa and the rest of the world. 

Addressing a presser on Tuesday at the Uganda Media Center-UMC Mbayo said they have contained the numbers to keep up with the Standard Operating Procedures-SOPs on Covid-19.

Mbayo says that all invited guests will have to undergo a Covid-19 test before they are allowed access to the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds where the swearing-in will take place.

She however says the heads of state are to be tested before entering the country while their entourage will be tested here.

She further explained that despite the Ministry of Health’s recommended number of guests is restricted to only 200, adjustments were made after consulting based on the nature of the occasion and that it only happens every 5 years.

Mbayo also says all SOPs such as social distancing and hand washing will be observed.

President Museveni was declared by the Electoral Commission as the winner of the January 14 elections after polling 58 per cent of all valid votes cast.

He will be sworn in for his 6th elective term in office that expires in 2026,making him run the country for 40 years.
