Five suspects have been thrown into police custody for robbing the residence of the late former Kampala Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

Police has revealed that they managed to grab the criminals based on an intelligence-led operation that has been ongoing for days now.

The suspects were briefly held at Crime Intelligence offices in Bukoto on Tuesday before being transferred to the Special Investigations Division –SID in Kireka where they are currently locked up.

Dr. Lwanga’s residence at Kyabakadde Village in Kyampisi Sub-county in Mukono District was attacked in the wee hours of April 16, 2021.

Over 20 robbers took more than 200000 shillings, mobile phone and gang raped women keeping the house before fleeing.

Police deputy mouthpiece for the Kampala metropolitan area Luke Owoyesigirye confirms that 5 suspects have been arrested after they were tracked down using the stolen phone .

Brig Chris Damulira, the Director of Investigations Uganda Police tasked the Kampala intelligence team under the command of Assistant Commissioner of Police-ACP, Thomas Kasimo to hunt down the suspects.


Archbishop Lwanga passed on in his sleep on April 3, 2021, at his official residence in Rubaga. Several people sent condolence messages accompanied by huge sums of money.
