Man kills his two brothers

Locals in Kibuku district are still in shock after a man suffering mental illness pounced on his two step brothers, killing them on spot.

The deceased have been identified as 12-year-old Zaidi Oboi and 5-year-old Ismail Okwan, both residents of Buguna village in Sala Parish in Tirinyi Sub-county in Kibuku District.

Eye witnesses claim that the suspect first had an argument with the stepmother identified as Lydia Nyalema at 9:00 pm on Tuesday before turning to his siblings and ending their life in a fit of rage. Police have arrested the suspect at Kibuku Police station .

Ismail Waliku Lilayina, the father to the deceased says the mentally ill son hit one of the victims on the floor and the other on the rock killing them instantly.

The deceased are children of Ismail Waliku Lilayina and Lydia Nyalema. According to police, the incident happened around 9:00 pm on Tuesday. He says the suspect fought his stepmother before he turned his anger on his siblings.

Immaculate Alaso, the Bukedi North Police Spokesperson, says that residents responded to the incident and managed to tie the suspect before handing him over to the police.

She says the deceased’s bodies are lying at Kibuku health center IV pending a postmortem.

Many Ugandans believe spirits and witchcraft to be the cause of mental illness, so they will commonly seek traditional healers before seeking evidence-based medical help.
