Man arrested over attack on Muhoozi, Museveni supporter

The police at Kira Road are holding a man on allegation of assaulting a rider and damaging his motorcycle on grounds that the motorbike bore portraits of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and that of President Yoweri Museveni.

Reagan Kabanda Reagan and others still at large are said to have participated in assaulting Tonny Buteera, 43, a resident of Nansana in Wakiso District, and damaged his motorcycle registration number UFM 707Y. 

The incident happened on October 11, 2022.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, Butera filed a case of assault and malicious damage at Kira Road Police.

He alleged that while he was waiting for a client on his motorcycle along Old Kira Road next to NUP (National Unity Platform) offices, a group of people he could only identify by face, attacked him and started spraying a red paint on his motorcycle, especially on the parts that had the “portraits of H.E the President and the first Son.”

Deputy KMP Spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrest of Kabanda and revealed that he was arrested after the “police reviewed CCTV footage.”

Against the above background, he was arrested Saturday and that the “he has positively been identified by the victim.”

He is currently detained at Kira Road Police Station, Owoyesigyire said.

“Efforts are underway to also identify others that could have participated in this attack,” he added.

Owoyesigyire appealed to “members of the public to ignore social media posts going around that the person arrested was arrested for political reasons.”

“We are only investigating the allegation of assault and malicious damage of property. The case file will on, Monday, be forwarded to the office of the Resident State Attorney for Advice,” he said.
