A total of 97,890 candidates countrywide have on Monday officially kicked off Uganda Advanced Certificate of Examinations set by Uganda National Examinations Board-Uneb.

The candidates started with Economics for Arts students and Chemistry paper 3 for the science counterparts.

However, there have been pockets of concern for malpractice in parts of Kampala. A Uneb official (names withheld) has spotted Kawempe Division in Kampala as a red-flag zone for examination cheating and other malpractices.

“This is a hot-spot, as evidenced by the prior exams (UCE and PLE). We must keep an eye out for even the smallest details,” the official said.

Without divulging names or schools suspected to have already engaged in the vice, the senior Uneb official sent to tight mark the area says the examination body is already investigating a certain head teacher who offered a bribe of 15 million shillings to a supervisor to cheat exams.

“I am aware of your meager payment. But let’s prioritize integrity. Do not allow yourself to be persuaded by these schools to cheat in exams. Of course, it will be difficult for you if you cooperate with them. And head office has added another layer of officials to monitor you, ” he warned.

While briefing Uneb scouts and invigilators ahead of deployed at Kawempe Police Division headquarters on Monday, he issued a stern warning to their officials and supervisors that they risk being penalized by the law should they engage in any form of malpractice.

There has not been any official communication from the Uneb spokesperson Jennifer Kalule, in regard to the alleged incident.
