The Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga has revealed that that State Minister for Karamoja, Agnes Nandutu has brushed off summons to appear before the Criminal Investigations Division headquarters in Kibuli.

Nandutu who has previously confessed to receiving a generous donation of 2000 pieces of iron sheet from her superior Mary Goretti Kitutu declined to appear or respond to police summons as required to make her case on what role she played in the iron sheets scandal.

Nandutu was tasked to appear on Friday as a witness in the ongoing investigations at Kibuli, but was no show.

While addressing journalists at the police headquarters on Monday, Enanga tasked anyone called on by security forces not to repulse appearing for fear of being arrested. He explained that their role is to interview and leave the rest to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

“There are some of the witnesses we interviewed from the beginning of the investigations and we have re-invited to reappear at CID headquarters but some of them have not appeared. For example, Hon Agnes Nandutu was summoned to reappear at CID headquarters but she didn’t turn up,”Enanga explained

He further explained; “The information we require from you can help either prove the allegations against them or disprove what has been put against them. We want to see whether the ingredients in the file are enough to be taken to the DPP,”

Enanga says the police keep a separate file on each person that is sent to the DPP and it is at their discretion to determine who is to be arraigned in court.

Today the State Minister for Finance, Amos Lugoloobi has been charged before the Anti corruption Court with with two counts of dealing with suspect property. However he has pleaded not guilty.

Last week, the Minister for Karamoja, Mary Goretti Kitutu was charged and later granted bail at the same court.
