UPDF Nationwide recruitment

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), through the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, has officially announced a major nationwide recruitment exercise to run from August 5 through August 17, 2025.

This recruitment will cover all regions of Uganda, with successful candidates expected to report to Kaweweta Basic Military Training School in Nakaseke District, within three days of recruitment.

Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, cautioned the public against fraudulent recruitment offers, insisting on the official channels for application and reporting:
“And then I get people calling me, people have gone to school. I said, you fellows, you have gone to school or you haven’t? We do announce our recruitment officially. So, why are you asking whether this is authentic when you can see very well that this is a conman?” he questioned

He provided clear instructions for successful candidates:
“Successful candidates must report to the Kaweweta Basic Military Training School in Ngoma, Nakaseke District, within three days of recruitment. If you have been recruited on August 5th, we expect that by August 8th, you report to Nakaseke. Every successful candidate will be given a card to report with at the training school, so you don’t have to explain who you are.” he said

Candidates can check their names on the official UPDF website at www.updf.go.ug/careers and also at respective District and Municipal Headquarters or City Halls where recruitment lists are posted.

Applicants are reminded to bring three passport-size photographs and an application letter signed by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), GISO, and DISO. Brig General Kulayigye has also cautioned applicants against moving with original documents and presenting fake papers.
